'Newtown Day' Yankees Tickets Went Quickly

When the New York Yankees offered 3,000 free tickets to Newtown residents for a July 7 "Newtown Day" game Friday, they didn't last long.

Newtown Patch, the Newtown Bee and several other sources shared the link to the form on Facebook, which quickly went viral on social media. Within a matter of hours, the tickets were gone -- with a waiting list of at least 300 in case of cancellations, according to Newtown Recovery Team manager Elizabeth Rallo.

Rallo says the lottery originally ran for the past week, through a limited distribution to  teachers and families of Sandy Hook Elementary School, as well as first responders.

Those Newtown residents who got tickets will be enjoying the New York Yankees as they play the Baltimore Orioles at Yankee Stadium July 7, the ability to bring up to 4 guests, and food vouchers.
