Voters have rejected Newtown's 2013-14 education budget at the past two referendums, but it returns today for a third go-around.

The education budget stands at more than $71 million, or a 3.93% increase from last year's budget. The previous budget was narrowly defeated by 52 votes in May, in the same referendum in which voters approved the $38.9 million town budget.

Advocates, including those in Newtown's PTA, hope it passes on Tuesday's third vote. At the last legislative council meeting, in which officials struck $300,000 from the proposed education budget, PTA members asked town officials to join them in support of the budget. One parent even launched a Facebook page called "Vote Full-Day Kindergarten for Newtown."
