Newtown Turkey Trot sponsored by Newtown Savings Bank

The Fourth Annual Turkey Trot 5K Road Race and Fun Walk, supporting Newtown's Booth Library, is selling out quickly!  Well over half of the one thousand spots for the running course are filled.  Last year the race sold out.  Those who are interested in running are strongly encouraged to register soon by visiting the website, www.newtownturkeytrot.com.

The race will be held this year on Thanksgiving morning, November 28th at 7:45 am.  The course remains the same as last year's with a start at Hawley Elementary School, a downhill stretch on Main Street past the flagpole, and the finish at Newtown Middle School.  A steep hill on Schoolhouse Road at the start of the course and another long hill on Grand Place at the end of the course guarantee that all runners will "earn their stuffing" on Thanksgiving Day. In addition to the 5K race, there will be a 2 kilometer walk.  Advance registration costs $25.00 for runners and $20.00 for walkers.  All runners and walkers receive a t-shirt with their registration.  Registration packets can be picked up at the library on Tuesday, November 26th from 4-8 pm or on Wednesday, November 27th from noon to 4pm.  Runners and walkers are encouraged to avoid long lines on race day by attending the early pickup sessions.

Volunteers are needed on the day of the race as course marshals, registration helpers, clean up crew, and "cheer zone" helpers.  If you are interested in supporting the race and walk as a volunteer, you can register for free by following the link on www.newtownturkeytrot.com

New features for this year's race include long-sleeved t-shirts and a new start design.  The start will include corrals so that runners can self-seed according to their pace.  Once again, runners who have participated in the Rooster Run, the Labor Day Road Race and the Turkey Trot will be eligible for special recognition for lowest combined times.  Winners receive a pumpkin pie along with their trophy, and all registered participants will be entered in a drawing for door prizes.
