Newtown Historical Society Presents: Tavern Signs: Art and Advertising in Early America

Please join us for a presentation on Tavern Signs: Art and Advertising in Early America.  Treasured today as examples of folk art, tavern and inn signs of the 18th and 19th centuries were part of the local landscape. Eye-catching symbols were designed to attract business, both from locals and travelers.  Richard Malley, now head of Research and Collections for the CHS, examines the changing face of such signs and their role in the local community. Rich joined CHS as Museum Registrar in 1990 and now oversees the CHS's fabulous 3-D, graphics and library holdings.
