Geraldine,
I pray for less hate in my heart as well...
However, one cannot reasonably make the…Read More inference that hate is associated with the comment I made above. In fact, caritas dictates that absent evidence to the contrary, with my comment and the motivation behind it, you must assume that I have done so in good faith and sound heart. Show me where my comment goes astray from caritas.
Yes, the Catholic Church is universal with its doors open to all human beings who are created in the image and likeness of God. However, although the Church loves sinners, It does not merely accept sinners, especially princes and principalities, without confrontation. Confrontation and instruction of the ignorant is a Spiritual Work of Mercy, one which has its foundation in Christ's cleansing of the Temple, John the Baptist's admonition of the Pharisees, and even St. Catherine of Siena's admonition of the Avingon Papacy.
Gov. Malloy is an unrepentant Catholic who has embraced and legally supported the Culture of Death. This isn't merely a political issue for the Church. Life is a fundamental issue with which Gov. Malloy has made himself akin to Pontius Pilate.
Now ask yourself, was St. John the Baptist motivated by hate when he excoriated the Pharisees as a "brood of vipers" for their "political" hypocrisy? Caritas can be tough and even abrasive, especially against the "princes and principalities" who I'm sure all see themselves as "good men with good hearts."

Geraldine, you are correct, the word Catholic does mean universal and all are always welcome. CK…Read More did not say Gov Malloy should not attend the Mass, only that he should not be speaking during Mass. That does not seem hateful to me, it seems entirely appropriate given his very public departure from church teaching, especially on the issue of abortion, which claimed the lives of 16,000 of CT's children last year. Do you see how it could be confusing to the laity to teach about the severity of abortion on one hand and then present a pro-abortion politician to stand up in Mass and speak to the congregation on the other?
Although all our welcome in our church, only those in a state of grace are permitted to receive communion. Is this born of hate? No, it is born out of care and concern for souls and reverence for the Sacrament. I would say limiting those speaking at Mass stems from the same desire. Having him give a toast at the reception would have been far more appropriate.
Additionally, According to the General Instruction of the Roman Missal, the laity should not have a speaking role in Mass anyway. See USCCB website here http://www.usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/the-mass/general-instruction-of-the-roman-missal/
Geraldine Jackman May 19, 2013 at 12:10 pm
The word "catholic" mean universal, for everyone. We do not turn people away, rather we…Read More embrace them as fellow human beings. Whatever political disagreements can be made, Gov Malloy is a good man with a good heart who has been here with Newtown and Msgr. through a trying time. As a catholic, I pray for less hate in your heart.......
