Head O' Meadow School

Flag as Inappropriate

Built in 1977, the Head O' Meadow School was initially designed around an open floor plan that was in vogue at the time. But later, partitions were put up, creating individual classrooms that educators now believe provide for a better learning environment. The only remnant of the open floor plan design is the library, which sits in the center of the school.

The principal of Head O'Meadow, William Bircher, sits next to the entrance, making him one of the first people to greet visitors. He says he likes to be "out where the action is."

The district operates a public preschool program, which features a mix of typical and special needs children, in the building. Enrollment for the preschool was about 68 students in October 2009.

At the end of the 2009-10, Bircher was replaced by Barbara Gasparine, the former assistant principal at Sandy Hook School.
