Is your Dehumidifier a Fire Hazard?

The fact is Dehumidifiers generate a lot of heat as they convert moisture in the air back to water. Most Dehumidifiers use between 400 to 600 watts of electricity to run. The longer they run the hotter they get. Always use a heavy duty grounded extension as many of the fires reported by fire departments are traced back to the cord used. Energy Star rated units are more efficient and generate less heat.

Most basement walls and floors absorb more water than multiple dehumidifiers can collect and they only address part of the problem in your basement. Lack of air movement  and moisture provide the opportunity for mold to grow, creating a bad odor  and allergens in the basement that leak into your living space. New technologies now exist that remove the moisture and stale air at the same time while using less energy than one 40 watt light bulb. The EZ Breathe Home Ventilation System has  no container to dump or filters to change and can be left unattended for months at a time.
