What Does Independence Day Mean to You?

Has the celebration of our country’s independence become too much about the celebrating? Tell us what the holiday means to you.

Fireworks and potato chips or freedom and patriotism – what does Independence Day mean to you?

As July 4th arrives, Patch wants to know what this nationalistic American holiday means to you.

Will you spend the fourth remembering the freedoms and American spirit that have been linked to the day for centuries, or has the holiday lost its luster and maybe you’ll just hope for good weather and head to the beach?

How will you celebrate and what does the anniversary of our country’s independence mean to you?

For my family, Independence Day has always been about reflecting on what the founding fathers believed in and struggled for, sometimes at great cost, in order to emerge as our great and sovereign nation, free of tyranny and oppression from outside its borders. Sadly, this sentiment is not reinforced as it is in my home nearly enough. To me and my family, there is nothing more beautiful than to see the Stars and Stripes waving majestically in the breeze. The impact of that sight stirs deeply in our hearts.
