The Week Ahead: From Big Time Rush to the Great Reunion

There's plenty to do this weekend in Newtown, with some iconic and sure-to-be well-attended events coming up in town, from Fairfield Hills to Dickinson Park. A glimpse at what's ahead:

Monday: The long-awaited Big Time Rush performance at Fairfield Hills, presented by Nickelodeon, starts at 7 p.m. Parking opens at 4:00 p.m. and gates open at 4:30. Feel free to bring fold-up chairs, blankets, food and water, but no pets, smoking or alcohol.

Tuesday: My Place's weekly Character Breakfasts features Yo Gabba Gabba characters this week. Bring the kids by between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m to meet characters throughout July and August.

Wednesday: Bob Bloom takes the stage at Newtown's inaugural Summer Jam concert for kids, 12:30 p.m. at Dickinson Park. Bloom, a drummer, will give the audience a chance to participate in a "hands-on drumming experience.

Thursday: Catch Shawn Taylor and the Wandering Roots trio 6:30 p.m. at Dickinson Park. The Americana/roots rock band has played nationwide; for more information, see their website.

Saturday: It's time for the Great Newtown Reunion, bringing together past and present Newtown alumni, faculty, administration, family and guest. The reunion runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., rain or shine, at the Fairfield Hills campus. A free shuttle will run from Newtown High School to the event.
