Add Your Photos to the Great Pootatuck Duck Race!

From the Memorial Garden to the Duck Race, Newtown was the place to be on Saturday

The Duck Race is the Lion Club's biggest fund raiser all year, and the locals turn out in support.  Walter Schweikert said that there are usually 3,000 to 4,000 who come to see the ducks poured into the Pootatuck River.  Funds raised will be donated to finding cures for heart disease, juvenile diabetes and more.

Besides the actual Duck Race, raffle tickets are being sold for a 1968 Mustang convertible.

The first Duck Race was held 12 years ago and has been a popular event ever since.

I'd like to congratulate Pat Llodra . Her duck and mine were neck and neck battling it out for fifth place. It was a clean and well fought race and her duck beat mine by a beak. Newtown bookmakers were as pleased as I over the race results. I will retire my duck to stud this year but will be back next year with a new quacker. Perhaps Ms. Llodra will initiate plans to replace the Newtown rooster with a duck. Great job to the Newtown Lion's club and all the rest who made the 12th running of the ducks a must see in Newtown.
