PHOTOS: Newtown Team in Mahwah Raises Money, Hope for Sandy Hook

The girls basketball team from the town still healing from a school shooting tragedy came to Ramapo College for a special game

The girls basketball team from Newtown High School was in Mahwah Sunday for a special game against the team from the Saddle River Day School.

The game raised money for Threes for Sandy Hook, a fundraising program started by the Newtown Nighthawks Girls Varsity Basketball team in response to the school shooting tragedy in Newtown last December.

The fundraiser is simple - for every three-point shot made at a game during the season, a three-dollar donation is made to a fund that supports the community of Newtown. SRDS is one of over 500 teams across the region who signed on to dedicate their season to helping Sandy Hook.

Ramapo College hosted the game, and Sunday was declared official 'Support Sandy Hook Day' in Mahwah.

SRDS won the game but the feeling of community and connection was the real winner.
