Newtown Youth Academy Sports & Fitness Center Announces Upgrade

Starting Aug. 1 the NYA will launch a multi-phased construction plan impacting the Fitness Center, the Turf Wing and the Field House.

NEWTOWN, CT –  NYA Sport & Fitness opened the doors of the 86,000 square-foot, multi-use Sports Complex and Fitness Center on the Fairfield Hills Campus in Newtown, on  November 1, 2008.  During the past four years NYA has served as a hub for community activity, fitness training and sports competitions. It has gained a reputation for being a safe, clean, eco-friendly and ultramodern facility that services Newtown residents and the surrounding communities.

Peter D’Amico, NYA founder and director, understands that the input and commitment of the community is critical to the long-term viability of the organization.  So earlier this year he reached out to the primary stakeholders of the NYA and asked what would make their experience at the NYA more complete.  He met with coaches and managers of local youth sports programs, the Newtown Parks and Recreation staff, the NYA employees and managers, and individuals participating in the sports training and fitness.

He listened to their suggestions, researched new sport technologies and materials then came up with a plan to upgrade the space to meet the needs of multiple sports groups, fitness enthusiasts and the community.

As we are learning from our Olympic athletes, it is essential to optimize every bit of available performance technology and use the very best and latest training tools to go from being great to being the BEST!

Starting August 1st the NYA will launch a mulit-phased construction plan impacting the Fitness Center, the Turf Wing and the Field House.  “We are planning on doing the construction in phases so the current programs and classes can continue with as little interruption as possible” said Kathy Brophy, Sports Wings Manager.

The current space will be reconfigured, using the newest materials and designs, adding new dedicated areas for sport specific training, expanding to create greater flexibility and access for sports groups and training, community events and family fun.

To further support my support of Aurelia, the letter above states it was the New York Post thatRead More wanted the details. Good for you town clerk! I goggled the Connecticut Council on Freedom of Information and they are indeed nothing more than a non-profit group. They are not a government agency. And an inept one - their own website is a mess. What clowns.- http://ctcouncilfoi.org/

Town Clerk Aurelia is already causing the town to needlessly spend money defending her derelictionRead More of duty: "An attorney representing the town, with the law firm Cohen and Wolf, issued an opinion in response to the, (New York), Post's request stating that the public is only allowed to view death and marriage certificates that are "at least one hundred years old." Cost aside she is pushing for a state law that would restrict access to a minors birth certificate for 6 months, she originally wanted them sealed for 10 years. The only thing the proposed law is going to accomplish is the healing that has been accomplished is going to be undone when the seal expires. This is much ado about nothing. http://www.newstimes.com/local/article/Newtown-officials-withhold-death-certificates-4526713.php

While I have no desire to view any of these death certificates, the law is the law. I have neverRead More viewed a death certificate, I doubt there is anything listed beyond the name of the decedent, dates of birth & death, parentage, and cause of death. Town Clerk Aurelia is clearly in violation of her oath of office. Her job is not to be administered based on feelings. In doing this she is opening the town up to F.O.I. violations, potential litigation, and fanning the flames of the crazy conspiracy theories. To quote the article, "we feel its an extreme invasion of privacy for these families." Should someone take this to F.O.I. or put it before a judge the town will lose. Do your job as required by statute.
