When and how did your business get started?
In 2003, I got the idea for my business Well Baskets from my father in law. He had just had a heart attack and wasn't very happy about the list of "do-not-eats" from his doctor. Since I had always been interested in food as medicine, I knew that there were plenty of foods he COULD eat that would be helpful for lowering his high cholesterol and blood pressure. It clicked suddenly that this was a great business idea--gift baskets that were "starter" kits filled with good foods that could actually help with a health challenge. Since that time I have developed a healthy, illness-specific gift basket for just about every health issue imaginable so that gift-givers can send a unique get well basket that It is positive and empowering.

Why did you choose Sandy Hook?
I wanted to stay close to home so that I could be there for my family. My husband grew up in Sandy Hook, and I loved hearing stories about his neighborhood, and the way things were. While there have been many changes in Sandy Hook since he was a boy, the village has maintained its charm and warm, feel-good aura. When I saw the "for rent" sign in 2007, I jumped on it knowing this was the perfect spot for my growing business. We are known for our healthy gift baskets, especially our signature illness-specific gift baskets. When we opened our retail shop, Wishing Well, in 2007, I chose the name so that it would tie into the gift basket portion--most insiders know that the name doesn't contain the article "the" since it is a sentiment that we are wishing <you> well! The shop contains all of the healthy snacks and foods in the baskets so that they can be purchased individually as well as in the baskets. To round out the shop and make it more of a gift shop, we offer hand crafted items from local artists. We are lucky to have so many talented individuals to provide us with jewelry, clothing, ornaments, home decor, and more.

What is your business best known for?
I'm all about turning a negative into a positive. The real underlying reason I have such a strong background in the power of healthy food is that it is my defense against my hypochondria. Eating well makes me feel that I have control over developing disease/illness, and scientific evidence says I'm not wrong! Instead of feeling helpless, I chose to find a way to knock back my fear, make money doing it, and possibly help other people be healthy as well!
