'Make A Home' For The Holidays in Sandy Hook

The Make A Home Foundation is kicking off their holiday mattress drive this year with a Small Business Saturday fundraiser and auction to help homeless and low-income families "make a home."

On Saturday, Nov. 30, the Sandy Hook nonprofit will host "Make A Home For The Holidays" at their 56,000 square-foot warehouse at 40 High Bridge Road, president Anita Pettengill announced Monday. Individuals can donate or participate in a warehouse sale and general auction, and funds will go to the organization's Furniture Gifting Program.

"We’re in the business of helping others," said Pettengill. "We would love for people to come and help support our mission. Around 4,500 people are homeless in CT right now. No one should be sleeping on the streets, on the floor or in their car. We help those who have come across rough times in their lives. It could happen to any of us at any time."

Make A Home's holiday mattress drive provides new or gently used mattresses thanks to donations from Newtown and the surrounding areas. It provides thousands of mattresses a year to needy families, according to Make A Home.
