With possible teacher layoffs on the horizon, the Newtown school district is looking to fill two principal positions, possibly as early as July, as well as other openings at the high school.
An advertisement was recently placed in at least one area newspaper, the (Waterbury) Republican American, "seeking exemplary educational leaders" with at least two years of experience for principal openings at Sandy Hook and Middle Gate elementary schools.
Sandy Hook School principal Donna Page´ recently announced she was retiring at the end of the school year while Middle Gate School principal Judith Liestman is a finalist for a job opening in New York, which would allow her to relocate and join her husband, Newtown school officials have said.
Job candidates for those positions have until April 23 to submit their applications online at the school district's Web site. Paper applications are not accepted.
Applicants must be certified and have at least two years experience as an administrator, according to the ad. The position pays between $135,000 and $144,000, and includes benefits.
The district also advertises on its Web site high school faculty openings, namely for a Spanish teacher, special education teacher and educational assistant who would work 30 hours a week.
