SandyHook2016.com to Map Progress of New Elementary School

A site created by Sandy Hook Elementary School project architects Svigals + Partners will keep kids and adults alike informed on the progress of the upcoming school, town officials announced Thursday.

The site: SandyHook2016.com.

"2016" refers to the expected completion date of the school, approved by voters in September 2013. Workers finished removing the last traces of the old Sandy Hook Elementary School in December, and Svigals architects are expected to present design specs for the new school soon.

The site will provide "project updates, a look into the design process, and a photo feed of the project under construction."

The site not only contains downloads of the Dickinson Drive site plan and a progress schedule, but a section called "Kids Build!" intended to teach Sandy Hook students about the construction of a new school. Developed in tandem with the New Haven School Construction Program, "Kids Build!" is a continuation of a partnership Svigals and NHSCP have undertaken at three New Haven schools.

Svigals says updates from the design team — including those presented to the Newtown Board of Education — will be posted on the site as they happen.
