'No Reason To Believe' Threat Exists at Weston Schools

Superintendent of Schools Colleen Palmer sent a message Friday detailing safety precautions underway in Weston following news of a school shooting in Newtown.

In response to the school shooting which allegedly occurred this morning at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Dr. Colleen Palmer, superintendent of Weston Schools, issued the following announcement:

Dear Families of Weston Students,

I want to inform you that there was a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT this morning.  Very few details are available at this time.

We have no reason to believe that there is any threat to our schools.  As an additional safety precaution during these unsettling events, the Weston Police Department will have a visible presence at the entrances to School Road and on campus.  We have taken the following steps to ensure the safety of our school community:

· All doors to our schools have been locked, including the high school and district offices. The open campus policy has been temporarily suspended.

· Our schools are operating under a normal schedule with all students remaining indoors today. While we are not in a lockdown, we have posted adults at all entrances to each school monitoring anyone coming into and out of the buildings.

· We are anticipating dismissing at our regularly scheduled times today.  If you need to pick up your child for an early dismissal, please speak with the adult at the entrance to the building.

We will update you as we learn more information.  As always, the safety and security of our students, staff, and visitors is our highest priority.

Sincerely,

Colleen A. Palmer, Ph. D.
