Newtown Students: Take the PeaceJam Survey

Students can give input on a planned event to encourage peace and positive change.

PeaceJam, an organization dedicated to teaching peace and conflict resolution skills, is coming to Newtown -- and a group of student organizers are looking for input from other students for the occasion.

Some Junior Newtown Action Alliance members went to the PeaceJam conference in April and got the idea, says Jr. NAA founder Sarah Clements. While there, they spoke with organizers about developing a special event just for Newtown High School and Newtown Middle School students, with the theme of "transforming tragedy into positive change."

"The event will be run like the incredible, eye-opening conference we went to in April, as we wanted to allow other Newtown teens the same opportunity that we had," says Clements.

Organizers hope the day will include a keynote speaker, mentors, workshops and small groups helping students "step back and connect with others," according to Clements.
