Newtown School Officials Tackle Depression and Suicidal Thoughts

Counselors work with middle and high school students

Often children suffer in silence with depression and suicidal thoughts, but not in Newtown. This year the district along with mental health professionals have participated in a program called “Signs of Suicide” to about 2,500 middle and high school students, the Danbury News Times reports.

Students are asked if they have suicidal thoughts and if they feel depressed, if they do, then they meet with counselors to get assistance, the paper reports.
