The Newtown Scholarship Association, Inc. is pleased to announce its scholarship awards for the 2011-2012 academic year.
All awards have just been finalized with 75 students receiving a total of $207,000 in financial-need-based awards.

“The total dollar amount of awards this year is once again a reflection of the growing need in our community and the ever-escalating tuition costs," said Stephanie Gaston, chairwoman of the NSA awards committee.
The scholarship association was established as a nonprofit organization in 1937 to promote and advance the education of secondary school graduates residing in Newtown by providing financial aid to deserving students. In 1937, a single $50 scholarship was awarded. In its history, the NSA has helped more than 1,000 students achieve a post-secondary education and awarded more than $3 million in need based scholarships.

Nearly 70-percent of contributions come from generous individuals and businesses primarily from Newtown with the remaining from fund raising events and sponsorships.
