Superintendent Janet Robinson has revealed the results of Newtown’s Connecticut Mastery Test scores and their relationship to the scores of other schools in the same District Reference Group (DRG).
The presentation, Measuring Student Progress, shown in its entirety, shows that Newtown schools ranked highly in comparison to similar schools like Greenwich, Fairfield, Cheshire, Middlebury and Southbury.
The DRG consists of schools that have similar demographics in education, income, occupation, need and enrollment.
The report shows that Newtown’s scores have consistently risen in almost all subjects since 2006. Within the DRG, Newtown’s students scored highly in several areas, coming in first in math in grades three, seven and eight. In reading, Newtown came in first in grade seven, and in writing, Newtown came in second in grades five, seven, and eight.
Individual student scores will be mailed out today, Sept. 7. To review the entire presentation with graphs and data, click Measuring Student Progress for the report.
