Newtown High School Adds E-Cigs to No-Smoking List

Newtown High School students can't smoke at school, of course — but a change in school policy will also restrict their electronic, smokeless equivalent.

Principal Charles Dumais announced a change to language in the school's smoking policy that would prohibit the possession and use not only of tobacco products on school grounds, but also nicotine products.

Electronic cigarettes are also specifically mentioned in the policy, along with cigars, pipe tobacco, chewing tobacco and snuff.

Electronic cigarettes, or e-cigs, contain no tobacco. But they do deliver a puff of nicotine through an electronically charged dispenser.

Dumais said the draft language will be presented to the Board of Education for approval.
