Fire Alarm at Middle School During Dismissal Was False Alarm

A smoke detector set off a fire alarm during today's early dismissal at Newtown Middle School, but the incident turned out to be a false alarm, according to the school district.

A secretary at the middle school told the Superintendent's Office she didn't believe any fire had taken place, but firefighters responded nonetheless "to take a look."

Students were departing for a pre-scheduled early dismissal when the fire alarm was triggered, and the first wave of busses had already left.
