PHOTOS: Cloudy Skies and Brilliant Smiles Mark First Day of School in Newtown

Controlled chaos ensued as children boarded buses for one of the most celebrated days of the year.

While some parents waited with their children in cars in front of the Reed Intermediate School, in the back, music teachers, dressed formally as conductors, greeted the buses and the deboarding students.

School is in session. Proof is in the traffic jam that our police departmen created in front of the high school this morning. They were blocking the Rt34 light with a car with lights on. Are they for real?

Why would you blame the PD for that?

The police created the problem? How about the mommies and daddies bringing their kiddies to school? Didn't the town give up on many years of tradition by getting rid of the owner operator school bus drivers in favor of contracted company school buses that have very few kids on them? Count the cars leaving the school, I have and NEARLY HALF the cars entering the school lot LEAVE the lot after dropping off their cargo. PUT THE KIDS ON THE BUS AND STOP SPOILING THEM! You want to cut down on traffic TAKE THE BUS!

In every school district in the country, the first day of school is a bit chaotic. It took one day for the O/O's to be brought back up and one day for someone to complain about being inconvenienced by traffic.... just laughable.

I wouldn't complain about the traffic. I would complain about a school being 10mins away from your home and taking an 1 1/2 hours to get them dropped off. Not to mention we should be the second stop so that elementary kids don't have to cross the street!

Yea, it is laughable. we had a perfectly good bus system in place and plenty of local jobs. a few Knuckleheads get together and erase all of that and then they leave. I for one am watching Newtown circle the drain. At least we did get rid of Janet and that is a step in the right direction, no we must start the repair work
