When I Think God Cries...

WHEN I THINK GOD CRIES... A Tribute for the People of Newtown Connecticut and Sandy Hook Elementary School

In memory of these precious children and teachers who departed this world, and for their grieving families whose 'pain' cannot be fathomed. To Law Enforcement, whose duty it is to restore peace and order despite the human trauma which affects them too, I give to them this poem in this time of need...

WHEN I THINK GOD CRIES…

The light extinguished and laughter stilled
that once embodied this child’s classroom,
are the precious moments of happier times
of God’s little angels who’ve all flown away.
No clothes to mend or skinned knees to dress
while the desk laments in this darkened tomb,
Oh grievous loss of both happiness and joy
where never before did ‘sadness’ hold sway.
Such are the times when I think God cries.

Toys that ‘dotted’ a youngster’s room floor
are put in their box for a time still unknown,
but patiently awaiting the return very soon
those tender hands that held them so close.
No meal to serve or glass of milk to pour
for the owner’s chair sits empty and forlorn,
to grieve the loss of a companion for whom
all meals are prepared by the heavenly host.
Such are the times when I think God cries.

Books that inspired to dream and have fun
are placed back upon the old shelf with care,
in hopes of becoming a good teacher once more
and fashion so proudly next progeny of the world.
No more lessons to give for last bell has rung
then sadly we turn out the lights as we leave,
and prepare for the next generation of those
who return to honor those dear boys and girls…
Yes, such are the times when I think God cries.
