Best Of: Newtown Gyms

This week we want to know which gyms are the best in Newtown.

Our inaugural "Best Of" contest in Newtown focuses on gyms.

We want you to tell us which have the best equipment, the best trainers, the best classes and the best overall vibe.

Essentially, where do you go to have the best experience working out?

Voting ends at 9 a.m. Friday. So please vote in our poll and in the comments.

Because this poll is not scientific, it is not the only criteria we will consider when choosing a winner. The winner will be determined by the Patch editor, based on poll results, reviews on Patch Places, and positive comments.

Please vote only once per survey.

We will announce the winner Friday at noon.

Here are the gyms to choose from. If we are leaving any off, please let us know:

At NYA, it is a community. It provides everything you need on the fitness continuum - group fitness, speed, cardio, weights, low impact, spinning, and more. I love the people and love the fitness variety. You go NYA!

NYA has the BEST instructors and trainers in Newtown. At NYA, they care about each member and their individual goals. Whether you are an elite athlete or a true beginner, the instructors and trainers are their to challenge you and cheer for you. The NYA instructors are friendly, positive and non-judgmental. NYA has it all the way! Convenience, cleanliness, friendly staff, weight resistance machines, indoor track, and evident community involvement! Yeah, that's important for me!

NYA really has it all for every family member! It is a clean, welcoming, family friendly environment with such a diversity of fitness options! The group classes are the best with top notch instructors and trainers. The staff is professional, friendly and helpful. It really has become like second home for our family as we are there almost 7 days a week! Highly recommend Body Pump and Spin classes!

The New CrossFit RedZone opening up is unlike any other gym. I highly reccomend this new gym over any other in town. The workouts are awesome and Kurt Kling is hands down the best trainer I know. The workouts are never the same and are much more usefull in life than than the simple running on a treadmill and lifting weights. Check out their website at http://crossfitredzone.com/

Joanne's Fitness is my choice. What a better way to work out in a friendly atmosphere that creates camaraderie and fun. Clean, great value and professional training rolled up in this jewel of a gym tucked away right off of Rt. 25.

Crossfit RedZone will be opening soon. Hands down the best way to get in incredible shape is crossfit training. The Klings have a real passion for training and know how to push a person to achieve more than they ever could have dreamed of.

CrossFit RedZone is a new gym in town that takes a different approach to working out. I have worked with Kurt Kling who is one of the trainers at the gym. He is a great trainer who knows tons about CrossFit. This workout style/regiment got me in the best shape of my life for wrestling. It was not only a muscular toned fit but also a cardio fit. The competition portion to this type of workout ensures that boredom will never be a problem. Definitely check this gym out when it opens if you are looking to get in amazing shape.

CrossFit RedZone will be opening shortly and every one should be excited about it! CrossFit is a a great sport for people of all ages, all intense work outs can be modified to your strength and speed. CrossFit is unlike any other sport you, use your mind and body not to mention its so much fun! Who knew lifting weights could be fun?!I can say from personal experience that Kurt Kling is a phenomenal trainer who always keeps his clients in mind, and he's just a nice guy in general. I can't wait for CrossFit RedZone to open! Check it out www.CrossFitRedZone.com located at 31 Pecks Lane unit 3

I predict NYA will win. They are the biggest and have the best equipment and trainers. If only they could get rid of the constant smell of rubber and plastic that's probably giving us lung cancer. NewFit will come in second because it is a nice homey place that has recently redone the interior and made the place quite nice in terms of aesthetics and has good people. They are more expensive than NYA (almost $15 more a month) and their equipment is old, dated and crappy. But the classes are better. I voted for NewFit even though I changed to NYA because of the $$$!

Crossfit Redzone will be opening in early April 2012. I know it will be the best gym for all. It's diversity style of personal training will show quick results. It is suited for all ages, student athletes from all types of sports to the everyday Mom and Dad. Check out the website crossfitredzone.com . It will be the best gym in Newtown

If you're talking about a gym and working out, then hands down NewFit. From the moment you walk into the facility it's what a gym should be. There’s also Racquetball and a basketball court which is big for me. Everybody remembers playing Racquetball at some point in their lives. If you’re looking for the latest trendy workout or those cookie cutter programs and trainers that train everyone the same, then this really isn’t the place for you. They have great personal trainers there lead by Tammy. She owns the Pilates studio iside NewFit and man, she knows her stuff.

The gym at NYA is wonderful although the other departments are extremely unorganized, and not so pleasant. I will only use the GYM!
Coach Dano March 01, 2012 at 08:35 PM
As an athlete and coach, I have trained with multiple trainers, coaches and have part of many gyms. Although, it has not opened yet, I believe that once it does, Cross-fit Redzone (location will be on Pecks Lane) will be one among Newtown's best gyms. The owner and the program has gotten my teams in peak condition by not only gaining strength, but keeping mobility. The owners and operators of Cross-fit Redzone are knowledgeable and motivated get you in whatever type of physical conditioning you wish. I have been trained/coached by some of the today's best coaches and trainers (i.e. Brett Wilmott- USA Olympic Skeleton Strength & Conditioning coach, Jack Daniels- currently, the best distance running coach in the nation), the program that will be offered at Cross-fit Redzone is along side the best training programs I have studied and been apart of. I highly suggest that when this gym opens, you at least take a look into it.

Club new fit is an amazing gym!! I love the classes and the staff is so knowledgable , I've gotten the best results at this gym. It's always clean and always updated whether it's classes or equipment. Whether club new fit wins or loses I'll never go anywhere else

The Inspired Body is a great place to better your body and mind. I have been going there for almost three years now and I love the feel of the intimate studio and one-on-one sessions. Even in classes, you know the instructors are there to push you and get you to the place in your health and happiness that you want to be. They have great up-to-date equipment and are always up on the advancements and new techniques in fitness. But what is also great about this studio is that they really teach you exercises you can carry forward in your daily life without any equipment. I lost thirty pounds in three months, and I know that without the instructors, (especially Sue) at the Inspired Body, I wouldn't have had the tools or drive to meet this feat. The Inspired Body is a fun, friendly environment to reach your fitness goals and I encourage anyone looking for a place to work out and have fun to try it out!

Hello! The NYA is a welcoming place where all fitness levels can be challenged and engaged. I just like being in that building for so many different things: food court, fitness classes and awesome gym, and my kids seem to always have a sport going on there as well. Can't beat working out while your kid is playing soccer, tennis, etc.

NYA has been a real blessing to me and my kids. My 3 year old loves going to the childcare, my 7 year old gets high impact fun time with the homeschool academy group, and I get to run in an incredible indoor track knowing that my girls are well taken care of and happy. Afterward, we enjoy snacks from their little food court area. The facilities are always clean and the staff always friendly and helpful. NYA is our favorite place to be!

NYA! There is something at NYA for everyone - youth to adults. It is a comprehensive facility that blends youth sports with wellness / fitness for people of all ages. The trainers and instructors are extremely knowledgeable and approachable. NYA builds community by providing healthy options for our young people and family time for all. Love that there are a variety of activities offered at NYA on weekends and in the afternoons & evenings for kids and their parents!

My family and I have been members at Newfit for the past 6 years now and we all love it! We make use of the cardio machines, the basketball court and racquetball courts, the weights and the wonderful classes. You get a feeling of being around family when you're there.
