Video: O-O, School District Lawyers Make Their Case

Listen to 20 minutes of a three hour hearing in front of the Board of Labor Relations regarding a complaint the Newtown owner-operators filed against the school district.

Henry Murray, a lawyer for the Newtown owner-operators, and Floyd Dugas, a lawyer for the school district, square off in front of the Board of Labor Relations Dec. 29 in the first of several hearings held to decide whether the owner-operators are school district employees, and if true, whether their collective bargaining rights were violated when the school district awarded the school bus contract to All-Star Transportation.

While several members of the audience, including a representative of Newtown Patch, had their video cameras out and operating during opening statements, the labor board asked that they be turned off for the rest of the hearing, saying that a court reporter, who himself is an independent contractor, would transcribe all that was being said during the hearing.

Listen to the opening statements in the video above. For full print coverage of the proceedings, go to the article,

Hi Christine, it's playing on two computers I tried. Are you pressing the "play button" on the image? Anyone having the same issues? Keep in mind because it's video, you need to have a pretty good Internet connection. Let me know if you continue to have problems. Thanks.

I am a little confused as to why the Board, all of a sudden realized that there was an ordinance regarding having to bid out anything that cost over $30,000. I am still concerned that it seems as if after the RFP did not work out in favor of those who wanted to be rid of our neighbors a.k.a. the O/O's they all of a sudden "found" this ordinance.

Oh yes 'ol Janet at work again. We should follow this gal to see how much she'll be getting paid to get Choco-Star in the backdoor. This is what we get for hiring an outsider to teach us hayseeds how it's done.Might as well have outsourced a Chinaman. So much for progress. The selling off of Newtowns character for those who have none. I can'r wait to see her taillights heading down the road.
