Masonicare, a care home for the elderly on Toddy Hill Road, was fined $1,590 for at least nine incidents of sexual molestation by a resident, The Hartford Courant and Connecticut Health I-Team have revealed.

Between August and November of 2013 the resident made sexual comments toward or touched at least seven female staff members, visitors and residents.

Despite taking action, the Department of Public Health concluded Masonicare had failed in its charge of caring for residents.

Some residents with advanced dementia can behave in this way, according to Margaret Steeves, a Masonicare spokeswoman, and "these behaviors can be difficult to manage."

Masonicare was one of several nursing homes to be fined by the DPH.

Masonic Care doesn't care. They have no clue how to manage. The fine was too small. Fine them 2 million and then see.
