New Lotto Offers $1,000 a Day for Life

Connecticut joins a consortium of other states to offer the prize. But with more states, the odds of winning are minimal.

Connecticut teamed up with the rest of New England to up the ante with its latest prize. “Lucky for Life,” which began on Sunday, offers $1,000 a day for life to winners.

The odds of winning are about one in 175 million.

According to the Associated Press, the Connecticut Lottery Corporation navigated tricky laws in Rhode Island, Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine to offer the new prize.

"Lotteries, as they age, look for more and more exciting ways to deliver new products to their players and this was a way to do that," Anne Noble, CEO of the Connecticut Lottery Corporation, told the AP. "The smaller states can't deliver a prize this big to their players, so it required a collaboration."

In the 2011 fiscal year, the Connecticut Lottery had its most lucrative year ever with more than . Approximately $289 million was given to the state’s general fund.

oh great...another COMMERCIAL
Paul Singley (Editor) March 13, 2012 at 02:02 am
True. I can see it now: maybe this one will feature a frog that will win and end up getting a bigger "pad." Those commercials are silly. But I won't lie, $365K a year - for life - sounds pretty nice.

I was not making reference to TV...I was speaking of Patch...home of commercial ads, restaurant photos, idiotic polls...now hyping the CT lottery
News items seem to be a distant memory! ***upcoming day to shred documents of residents...NOTHING *** Transportation Hearings...NOTHING ***CL&P to do MAJOR tree trimming...NOTHING

Sam, as is the beauty of public opinion (and specifically to Patch, the comments sections), I have not always agreed with you but this time I say: "Hear! Hear!" In recent weeks I have not felt Patch has provided the local, town information that I so treasured. I think to those days last October when we had no electricity, heat or water and the town was a mess. I visited Patch first thing in the morning, last thing at night and a million times in between because that was where the important information could be found thanks to Hoa's amazing daily summaries. The knowledge I gained helped me feel connected during a time of great disconnect and confident that the problems I was facing each day were recognized and resolution was in the works. I fear that today, under those same circumstances, I would find on Patch a poll about the hotel where most residents are staying or perhaps a call for local eatery suggestions rather than reports of important local news (like sources for heat, water and electricity) that are vital during such times.

Psst, hey Patch....There will be a block party at Plaza South, 266-274 S. Main St., from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 31.
This is called town news, in case you were curious

More and more lotto...yet if I want to play a little online poker, I'm branded a terrorist.

QWERTY,
Nah, you ain't no terrorist. Sometimes you just make too much sense for the masses, and you scare them. :)

How much in taxes would a person pay on 365K a year?
John March 14, 2012 at 12:33 am
Between the State of Ct and Federal taxes you would pay $115700.

Why is it the panel for this event does not include a single advocate for gun-owners' rights? WithRead More all due respect to Chief McNamara, why does the panel no include a person who can speak to gun safety from a gun-owning civilian's perspective? ML, you claim that the assembled folks "do not offer judgements about gun ownership" but they are not including a single voice that can offer perspective on gun ownership. I have been to "education" sessions sponsored by Meg's March for Change and they are one-sided indoctrinations into gun control advocacy. >>>> I was in Hartford for the public hearings in January when both Meg and March co-founder Nancy gave their personal testimonies and they all but threatened the legislators on the panel with election day retribution for all those who did not tow the gun-control line of thinking (i.e. March and CAGV). To suggest that Meg "does not offer judgements" is fallacious and disingenuous.

I'm o n Butterfield. No sightings here. Any specifics as to her location?
Carol Chapman June 19, 2013 at 09:23 am
Norma has been spotted this morning at the intersection of Kenan and Currituck. The red leash isRead More still attached. She was trying to eat a dead squirrel on Currituck. Very skittish, but still in the neighborhood (yay). Please watch for her. My husband and sister-in-law (who first spotted her on Currituck this morning) were unable to get near her. She's in the woods, heading toward Butterfield. Her foster mom is on the scene now. Folks in the neighborhood, please watch for her and call 203-942-4008 if you see her.

Carolee Mason (Newtown's Animal Control Officer) is watching her from her car at the moment, armedRead More with catfood to tempt her closer. The foster mom is on her way there again, this time with chicken, and Laura is on her way with hamburger. Problem is, this dog is VERY shy, skittish and quick to run away.
