Holiday Hours for Town, School, Post Offices, Library

Government offices are closed while the local library has shortened hours.

Government offices and libraries all have reduced hours during the holidays.

Post Office

U.S. Post offices in Newtown are closed Sat., Dec. 24 and will re-open Tues., Dec. 27. That also would apply for mail delivery.

Postal officials recommend that in order for packages to reach their destination for Christmas, Priority Mail should be sent by Dec. 21 and Express Mail by Dec. 22.

In honor of New Year's, the post office also will be closed Jan. 2 and will reopen the next day at 9 a.m.

Town Offices

Newtown government offices will close at noon, Dec. 23 and re-open Tues., Dec. 27. Town offices also will close early at noon, Dec. 30 and re-open Tues., Jan. 3.

Public Schools

Schools are closed Mon., Dec. 26 through Mon., Jan. 2. Classes resume Tues., Jan. 3.


The has reduced hours in observance of the holidays. On Fri., Dec. 23 and Dec. 30, the library only will be opened from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The library will be closed Sat., Dec. 24 through Mon., Dec. 26 and Dec. 31 through Jan. 2. The library will re-open Tues., Jan. 3 with regular hours.

Very interesting that the Post office is closed and no mail delivery Saturday and Monday! Are the Banks also closed on Mondays after the Holidays?
