CL&P Restoration: A Powerful Problem?

Is the electric company doing all it can to restore power or are they really unprepared?

I’ll never forget the burden of . I woke up that Sunday morning in our old Indian Neck neighborhood and looked outside; the storm surge hadn’t hit yet. I thought about making a cup of coffee and foolishly opted to take five more minutes of shuteye. I awoke again to the sound of rushing down my street and the lights? They were long out. It was days before I had a hot cup of coffee.

Without power, I worked to keep the community informed, setting up shop in my car – my laptop plugged into my car power outlet. I worked at the police station and fire department and somehow in the middle of everything, found time to move our stuff and relocate to a dry, new apartment.

I survived.

What I can’t imagine though, is just two months later, going through the same thing again. I am so grateful through the October nor’easter and for the near 1,000 customers near the Greens Condos.

During Irene, the lack of power was tough to say the least, and here in Branford, towards the slow power restoration when he met with Senator Richard Blumenthal and other town leaders in our Town Hall. The community seemed to appreciate this gesture.

Now, after the late October nor’easter, where there was an unprecedented amount of people were left without power – more than 750,000 CL&P customers lost power – there are still more than 100,000 people in the dark.

Last night Gov. Dannel P. Malloy stated publically that he didn’t think the power company would hold true to their goal of 99 percent power restoration in each city and town by midnight tonight.

Again, CL&P is faced with legislatures taking issue with their relief efforts. What do you think? Please share your thoughts with the community.
