A Quiet Race for the 112th District

State Rep. DebraLee Hovey is campaigning, while her challenger, Robert Dombroski stays home.

Robert Dombroski vowed to make a strong run to unseat incumbent Republican, DebraLee Hovey, for the 112th District, but since his campaign was unable to raise enough money for state matching funds things have gone quiet in the race to represent Monroe and a portion of Newtown.

Red and white Hovey signs can be seen on lawns all over town and the state representative also bought ads to bring her message to voters. She actively campaigned in the district Tuesday, while her opponent was nowhere to be seen.

Reached at his Monroe home Tuesday morning, Dombroski was asked if he would be campaigning at the polls today.

"I voted this morning," he replied, adding he did not plan to greet voters during the day. "I essentially just ran a low profile campaign — took advantage of the free media."

While Hovey will attend a Republican gathering at Tavern restaurant in Monroe tonight, Dombroski plans to stay home and follow races on his computer.

Asked how he feels about his own race, Dombroski said, "We'll know soon enough. It's in the hands of the voters."

Despite fighting an earache, Hovey said she felt good.

"People have been positive towards me and what I've been doing," she said outside the polls at Fawn Hollow. "Hopefully I'll prevail again. You can't take anything for granted."

Donna Denby of Monroe smiled at Hovey as she headed toward the polls. "Who will I vote for for state representative?" Denby asked. "Probably the prettiest, smartest blonde in Monroe."

Why is Donna Denby calling Mr. Dombroski "pretty"? Sure, he's blonde and probably very smart, but I would think "handsome" would be more appropriate. Right?
