Police say a 30-year-old Newtown woman—who was allegedly packaging drugs while parked outside a Southeast business—is facing felony and misdemeanor charges.
Officials arrested Alexandra Cameron-Braley, of Newtown, at about 11 p.m. Aug 18 in the parking lot of a local convenience store, which Donald B. Smith did not name in a report released Wednesday. Members of the agency's Narcotics Enforcement Unit were conducting a surveillance detail at the same location, according to officials. They were working undercover and reportedly saw the defendant "acting in a suspicious manner."
"Upon approaching the vehicle, deputies saw the lone female occupant counting
and repackaging a large quantity of pills believed to be earmarked for distribution," authorities said in the statement. "Their field investigation revealed that she was unlawfully in possession of 239 Opana pills, several Xanax, Oxycodone and Hydrocodone pills, as well as five packets of marijuana."
The defendant is facing two counts of felony third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and four counts of misdemeanor seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree. Police also charged Cameron-Braley with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.
Following arraignment before Kent Town Justice Kevin Douchkoff, who was acting on behalf of the Southeast Justice Court, Cameron-Braley was sent to the Putnam County Correctional facility on $10,000 bail. She will be due in court at a later date.
Police said that deputies also confiscated a 2002 Honda and $546 from the defendant.
