Trumbull Cops: Woman Operated on Cat

Police said she is not a licensed veterinarian.

A Trumbull woman who is not a licensed veterinarian injured a cat by neutering it herself, police said.

Lisa Susan Richards, 48, of Hemlock Trail, is charged with cruelty to animals. Police said Richards turned herself in to police on a warrant Tuesday.

Richards declined to comment. The cat has apparently recovered, police said.

Police said Richards, who runs Operation Spay, was asked to have a cat neutered. When the owner got the cat back, it appeared ill and Richards failed to resolve the problem, according to reports.

The owner then took the cat to the office where the procedure was supposed to have been performed but that office said the work was never done there, police said.

Another vet treated the cat afterward, police said.

Richards was released on a written promise to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court Jan. 29.

Obviously, you need to make sure that a licensed veterination is operating and treating your pet. If not, then you are to blame for not making sure your loved pet is in the hands of someone capable of treating and taking care of it. Shame on you if you don't look into that.

You're right shame on the cheap skate who looked for the easy way out. Shame on the cheap skate that surfs the internet and looks for the "FREE LUNCH" without looking at the cost or implications of that free lunch or in this case the spaying.

plain and simple, there is a reason people go to school and training for potentially deadly surgery on animals. Even for people with minor surgery there are risks and those acts preformed by an MD are still made clear to their patients. Unfortunately some the worst things imaginable have been done with the best intentions and that still is no excuse. Don't be stupid; call a vet. As far as i am concerned if you want to do something potentially deadly to your pet, then you deserve the same treatment.

Oh my god, you are going to go by what was stated by the media with no Proof? Lisa Didn't do any SURGERY! She brought it to a Vet to do the Surgery the VET is the one that BOTCHED IT, and didn't inform Lisa that it was botched, The vet made LISA the fall guy the scapegoat, the chump. Need I go on? Lisa is innocent and is going through court trials at the moment. so stop bad mouthing a person who only Captures the stray cats and tries to help lower the Population of strays in CT. Christ do your research, ask the group she works with, they can all tell you that she didn't do the surgery, that all this is one big frame up.
