Police: Stolen Excavator Taken From Maryland

Police arrested Andrew Hull of Newtown last week for the alleged theft.

Newtown Police say a stolen excavator made its way from Sharptown, Maryland -- a suburb of Salisbury with only 649 residents -- to Newtown last week, but was tracked down using a LOJACK chip embedded within.

At about 11:40 a.m. December 6, police arrested Andrew Hull of Boggs Hill Road, allegedly finding the stolen 2000 Takeuchi TB135 mini-excavator on his property.

According to police, the excavator was reported missing from Sharptown, Maryland, the previous day at about 7:03 a.m. Police worked with Maryland State Police in investigating the alleged crime.

Newtown Sgt. Douglas Wisentamer told the Newtown Bee it appeared the trailer had been stolen in the middle of the night and transported by trailer to Connecticut. The excavator, valued at less than $10,000, was impounded, and Hull was charged with felony 3rd Degree Larceny By Possession and released on a $10,000 non-surety bond.

Lojack is a recovery company specializing in tracking everything from cars and trucks to laptops. According to the company's website, its services boast a 90% recovery rate for stolen goods.

"At about 11:40 a.m. December 6, police arrested Andrew Hull of Boggs Hill Road, allegedly finding the stolen 2000 Takeuchi TB135 mini-excavator on his property." Allegedly? I'm pretty confident it was found on his property. Of course, it is only alleged that he stole it and put it there.
