Police say a Newtown man who placed a 911 call reporting a burglary in the early afternoon of Feb. 17 wasn't actually a burglary victim. Instead, the man -- Richard Reed, 38, of Taunton Lane -- was arrested on four different counts for what police say was a false 911 call.
When police arrived at Taunton Lane, they allegedly found that the reported burglar or burglars were actually allowed at the house and that no criminal activity was going on. Reed, who placed the call, was charged with Falsely Reporting an Incident, Misuse of the 911 System and Interfering with an Officer.
While police reports didn't specify the age or identity of the reported burglar or burglars, or their relationship to the arrestee, Reed was also charged with Risk of Injury to a Minor. He was released on a $500 bond, with a court date of Feb. 28.
