Police: DUI Driver Backed Into Patrol Cruiser

Police say a Massachusetts driver was under the influence when he backed into a police cruiser in the commuter parking lot near Wasserman Way and Interstate 84 Exit 11.

Newtown police say they got a tip about someone driving erratically Wednesday night, and Ofc. Michael McGowan headed to the scene, where he found the car parked in the commuter lot. According to reports, the driver — Timothy Schindler, 46, of Brockton, Mass. — then backed into the cruiser, causing minor damage.

After investigation, Schindler was taken into custody at about 9:10 p.m., charged with Driving Under the Influence and released on $500 bond.

Reports are based on information provided by the Newtown Police Department and are not an indication of guilt.
