Police Dog Smells Marijuana, Woman Charged With Sale

Neither arrests nor charges indicate a conviction, and neither means that a person is guilty of what police allege.

On Sept. 14, at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers of the Newtown Police Dept were conducting surveillance in the area of 228 S. Main Street and Sand Hill Plaza.  An undercover officer observed a drug transaction take place and with the assistance of the department’s K9 handler, interviewed the two people involved.

After a thorough investigation, Vanessa Fulton, 25, Palmetto Rd, Bridgeport,  was charged with the Sale of Marijuana of less than a 1/2 oz.  She was processed and later released on a $500 surety bond with a court appearance on Oct. 2, at Danbury Superior Court.

The other person involved was issued an infraction for violation of Possession of marijuana less than 1/2 oz.

I wish Ms. Fulton and 'the other person' a speedy and complete exoneration. What an incredible waste of time and money. Law enforcement needs to re-direct its focus on crime...to those that are REAL crimes. I was in Federal Prison for 5 years for a marijuana offense. No, it was not for simple possession. I was arrested aboard a Lockheed PV2 in Marianna, Florida...charged and convicted for conspiracy to import and distribute 12,000 pounds of marijuana. At the time, I really had no idea what I had gotten myself into...mine was an offense involving pot!...the thought never occurred to me that I may actually spend years in prison for that 'indiscretion.' As my years in prison rolled by, what I did see were armed bank robbers, coming and going...while I still sat there for marijuana. Most of the bank robber lads only spent 17 to 24 months. But, I and my fellow 'drug offenders,'...we stayed for years. I wrote about the escapades that led to my incarceration. I admit, I had a great time. No one was injured, no one was killed, firearms were not involved...there were no victims. We were Americans...doing what Americans do best...living free. Truly, it is time for this lunacy to end...it never should have begun. My book is: Shoulda Robbed a Bank I think you may enjoy it.

I'm pretty sure the knuckleheads who tirelessly comment on this website will probably not enjoy your book. This is definitely a waste of time and money but at least the good people of Newtown know "undercover" officers are watching Sand Hill Plaza now. Thanks Patch!
