Police Blotter: Shot Fired, Possession of Weapons in Vehicle

The information above was provided by the Newtown Police Department. Neither arrests nor charges indicate a conviction, and neither means that a person is guilty of what police allege.

On July 27, at about 9:45 p.m., James Collier, 30, of Smoke Rise Ridge, Newtown, was charged with Disorderly Conduct, Illegal Discharge of a Weapon and two counts of Weapons in a Vehicle.  An investigation by Newtown Police found that Collier had fired a shot into the ground outside of his home, and then left the area. Police found Collier on Westover Road in possession of a gun and two additional weapons.

Collier was given a tentative court date of July 30, and was held on a $50,000 bond.

What Mr. Collier is reported to have done is done hundreds of times a day in many other states, legally. In the People's Democratic Republic of Connecticut though the man gets charged with four counts and held on a $50,000 bail. I have an early 20th century newspaper clipping from the New London Day reporting on my grandfather who, as a 12 year old kid, grabbed HIS revolver and blew his neighbor's dog away for habitually tearing up his vegetable garden. No charges.

Well, CT is not redneck heaven! ps: do you know that these weapons were legally obtained and registered?

I'll take a redneck as a neighbor any day rather than a CT elitist snob.
Paul Alexander July 31, 2012 at 09:15 PM
A little more redneckness, cojones and spine is just what CT needs!

The best kind of neighbor is a police officer, he’ll never talk to you when he’s out in his yard, but you know he packing and you'll be safe when needed!!

CT doesn't need rednecks nor the KKK, thank you very much ! Do you really think it's wise to have laws that allow you to shoot someone, because in your mind, they represent a threat?
Alex Tytler July 31, 2012 at 11:10 PM
The only way you'll be safe is if you're packing. He'll be out getting donuts.

I love the great idea of firearms allowed in drinking establishments, went a long way toward population control in the wild west.

Janie, GEE WHIZ... What does redneck heaven mean? ps: do you know that these weapons were NOT legally obtained and registered?
Alex Tytler July 31, 2012 at 11:45 PM
And in Sandy Hook.

making unsubstantiated claims that the guns were not registered and that he would be affiliated with the KKK sounds a lot like slander to me. takes a whole lotta ignorance and hate i guess

Alex, it's not donuts they seek its coffee to help them stay alert at all times for the midnight shift, it's very difficult to change your sleeping patterns . You try it for a week?
