Police Blotter, Oct. 26 – 30, 2011

The following information was supplied by the Newtown police department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Berkshire Road: A Toyota, operated by Saurau Bhandani, 25, of Treat Street, West Haven, lost control, drove off the roadway and hit a rock on Berkshire Road by Sherman Street at about 1:50 a.m., Fri., Oct. 28, police said. Police reported no injuries. Bhandani was issued an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions and failure to drive right.

Berkshire Road: A Geo Prism, operated by Kristen M. Itzla, 19, of Mechanic Street, Carmel, N.Y. rear-ended a Chevrolet Aveo, operated by Jefferson Coelho Martins, 21, of Boston Post Road, Old Saybrook, in the area of 107 Berkshire Road at about 2:45 p.m., Sun., Oct. 30, police said. Itzla was issued a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and Martins was issued an infraction for operating a motor vehicle without a license.

Berkshire Road: An Audi, operated by Gerard Fassbender, 58, of Great Oak Road, Shelton, was turning onto Wasserman Way from Berkshire Road when it collided with a Honda, operated by Jenna Kakadeles, 20, of High Rock Road, at about 6:20 a.m., Thurs., Oct. 27, police said. Police reported no injuries. Fassbender was issued a written warning for failure to grant right of way.

Blue Spruce: A Saab 900, operated by Matthew J. Fitzpatrick, 26, of Homestead Lane, Brookfield, lost control and collided with a curbe on Blue Spruce Road at about 11:35 p.m., Sun., Oct. 30, police said. He was issued a verbal warning for restricted turn. Police reported no injuries.

Fan Hill Road (Monroe): Joshua George Adams, 20, of Twist Hill Road, was charged with violation of probation, second-degree criminal trespass and second-degree threatening on two warrants issued in connection with domestic incidents, police said. He had been arrested Jan. 18 and Feb. 6 on domestic incidents, police said. Adams turned himself in on the warrants to Monroe police, who then contacted Newtown police Thurs., Oct. 27, officials said. Adams was held on $20,000 bond and was to appear Oct. 28 in state Superior Court in Danbury.

Hawleyville Road: A vehicle parked on Hawleyville Road near Farrell Road was struck by a white pickup truck with a cap during the snow storm that day, police said. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Police Officer Michael McGowan at 203-426-5841. Police did not report injuries.

Glover Avenue: A Ford dump truck, operated by James Ray Blanchard, 38, of Forest Street, Reno, NV, rear-ended a Nissan Sentra, operated by Lilliana Ospina, 42, of Scuppo Road, Danbury, in the area of Glover Avenue and Main Street at about 9:10 a.m., Fri., Oct. 28, police said. Police reported no injuries. Blanchard was issued a written warning for following too closely.

Glover Avenue: A Volvo S60, operated by Richard Hirst, 39, of Scudder Road, collided with a deer in the area of 12 Glover Ave., at about 6 p.m., Weds., Oct. 26, police said. Police reported no injuries.

Hattertown Road: A Chevrolet pick-up, operated by James J. Chevalier, drove off the roadway on Hattertown Road shortly before midnight Sun. Oct. 30, police said. He was charged with driving under the influence and failure to drive right. Police reported no injuries.

Lakeview Terrace: Alexa S. Larsen, 43, of Lakeview Terrace, was charged with first-degree criminal trespass and operating an unregistered motor vehicle after she allegedly entered the Newtown Youth Academy on Fri., Oct. 28 from where she had been banned and later observed operating an unregistered vehicle, police said. She was released on a promise to appear Nov. 15 in state Superior Court in Danbury.

Main Street (police department): Catherine Barcello-Volpe, 45, of Chestnut Grove Road, Spring Grove, PA, was charged with two counts of issuing a bad check after she was arrested on a warrant issued in 2000 on Weds., Oct. 26, police said. She allegedly issued bad checks to Joy's Hallmark in the Sand Hill Plaza, both for amounts less than $500, and then failed to appear to answer to those charges, police said. Barcello-Volpe was released on $1,000 bond and was to appear Nov. 9 in state Superior Court in Danbury.

Mount Pleasant Road: A Toyota Avalon, operated by Gary Storms, 65, of Paugussett Road, attempting to make a U-turn on Mount Pleasant Road due to the slippery, snowy conditions, was struck by a Subaru Legacy, operated by Ronald Corda, 61, of Robin Lane, Shelton, at about 2 p.m., Sat., Oct. 29, police said. Police reported no injuries.

Mount Pleasant Road: A Ford Fox, operated by Douglas Gramlich, 58, of Edgewood Drive, sideswiped with another vehicle that subsequently left the scene during the Oct. 29 snow storm at 1:15 p.m., police said. The vehicle that left was described to be a gray pickup with possible left rear corner damage, police said.

Mount Pleasant Road: A Toyota RAV4, operated by Steven W. Tracey, 55, of Hawthorne Hill Road was attempting to turn off Saw Mill Road onto Mount Pleasant Road when it collided with a Mercury Sable, operated by Barbara Schult-Falls, 46, of Long Mountain Road, New Milford at about 12:10 p.m., Sat., Oct. 29, police said. Tracey was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way at an intersection. Police reported no injuries.

Skytop Drive: A Ford plow pickup, operated by a town employee Howard R. Sears, 41, backed into a Jeep Wrangler, operated by Anthony Victor Macri II, 29, of Evergreen Road at about 11:30 a.m. on Skytop Drive, police said. Police reported no injuries. Sears was issued a verbal warning for unsafe backing.

South Main Street: A Subaru Impreza, operated by Devon Lacroix, 24, of Glen Road, spun perpendicular to traffic and then was stuck by a Hyundai Tiburon, operated by Michael Tobin Jr., 19, of Narragansett Road, on South Main Street at 1:30 p.m, Sat., Oct. 29 due to snowy roadway conditions, police said. Police reported no injuries.

Taunton Lake Drive: Michael Jonathan Masilotti, 43, of Taunton Lake Drive, was charged Thursday with failing to appear, second-degree assault, breach of peace and threatening on a warrant after he failed to make his court appearance in connection with a domestic dispute incident, police said. He was held on $20,000 and was to appear later in court on Fri., Oct. 28, police said.

Toddy Hill Road: A Ford pick-up, operated by German Rodgriguez, 33, of Parrot Avenue, Bridgeport, slid to the right of a snow covered Toddy Hill Road and crashed into a fence at Surrey Trail at about 2:10 p.m., Sat., Oct. 29, police said. Police reported no injuries. Rodriguez was issued an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Toddy Hill Road: A Ford pickup, operated by Douglas Luessenhop, 44, of Bungalow Terrace, struck a deer at about 4:50 a.m., Thurs., Oct. 27 on Toddy Hill Road, police said. Police reported no injuries.

Wasserman Way: Harold Beras, 21, of Sylvan Avenue, Waterbury, was taken into custody after the Chrysler van he was operating drove across Waserman Way from the Interstate 84, Exit 11 ramp and crashed into an embankment at about 9 p.m., Fri., Oct. 28, police said. He was charged with driving under the influence, possession of less than half ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on $1,000 bond and was to appear Nov. 15 in state Superior Court in Danbury. He also received a written warning for failure to maintain a proper lane.
