Newtown Teen Charged in Online Smear Campaign

The 17-year-old male allegedly created a Facebook account pretending to be a female to gain access to other females' photographs.

A 17-year-old Newtown male has been arrested for allegedly creating a fictitious Facebook account and using that to post inappropriate photographs of female teenagers on another website he created.

According to police, in May and June of 2012, a fictitous Facebook account impersonating a female was created to entice other juvenile females to become a friend on Facebook, to gain access to the females' Facebook photos. The photos were then reportedly copied onto a different website and inappropriate material was drawn on the photos and multiple inappropriate comments were made, police said.

The juvenile females were then sent Facebook messages from the fictitous account with a link enabling them to view their own photos on the other website, police said.
