New Details Emerge in Home Invasion Case [Update]

Police say they are investigating the case as a "possible sexual assault."

Update:

Police have released new information about a reported home invasion case at 31 Berkshire Road Tuesday morning.

According to the just-released report, the suspect made forcible entry into the home through the front door. Police say they are investigating the case as a possible sexual assault. Additionally, an occupant home at the time of the alleged invasion was able to provide police with a description of the suspect, which police did not release in the report.

The incident took place in a two-family home, police said, one of which is currently being renovated and was unoccupied at the time. State police assisted in the investigation by processing the scene for forensic evidence.

Police repeated an earlier call for witnesses, mentioning a dark-colored, possibly four-door sedan that may have been seen speeding away from the scene. Some news outlets have reported police were looking for a silver SUV. Police told Patch that information was incorrect.

No further details are available at this time.

Original Story:

Newtown Police have established a crime scene at 31 Berkshire Road in Sandy Hook.

State police have also responded to the property, which has been cordoned off by yellow caution tape.

Police have not yet released information as to why they are on scene, but one neighbor tells Patch it is "major." The woman, who said she knew what had happened, declined to speak further out of respect for her neighbor.

The .29-acre property is located on a heavily traveled section of Route 34 near the intersection of Toddy Hill Road, just off Exit 11 on Interstate 84. The property itself abuts I-84.
