Newtown Police Hire Three New Recruits

Three new recruits will soon be joining the ranks of the Newtown Police Department.

The three — Adam James, Timothy Schoen and William Crone — began training Monday at the Connecticut Municipal Police Academy in Meriden following their hiring on Dec. 27, having already completed departmental and town orientations.

James, 21, is a Hartford County native and is completing a Criminal Justice degree at Pace University. A member of the Coast Guard Reserve, James comes from a law enforcement background (his father was a 32-year police veteran) and served as captain of the Pace University swim team.

Schoen, 28, is a Bethel native who served in the United States Marine Corps for eight years, performing two tours in Iraq. He also joined humanitarian missions across the Americas.

Crone, 28, a native of Freedom, N.H., graduated from Southern Connecticut State University, where he played football.

After graduating from the Police Academy, James, Schoen and Crone will begin field training with the Department of Police Services for about four months before becoming sworn officers.
