Newtown Police Blotter: Interfering with an Officer, Domestic Disputes

The information in the article was provided by Newtown Police Department. Neither arrests nor charges indicate a conviction, and neither means that a person is guilty of what police allege.

Interfering with an Officer

Richard Markham, 41, of 29 Wills Road in Newtown, was arrested on charges of interfering with a police officer and breach of peace on Aug. 7. Markham was arrested by warrant while appearing at Danbury Superior Court on unrelated charges, police said.

His bond was set at $10,000 and he was arraigned that day.

Disorderly Conduct

A man and woman were both charged with disorderly conduct on Aug. 6 after police responded to a report of a domestic dispute at 15 Evergreen Road in Sandy Hook.

Police arrested both Gregory W. Hanson 47, and Shari F. Hanson, 54, at 6:45 p.m., at their Evergreen Road residence. Gregory was transported to Danbury Hospital for a laceration he received from breaking a window, police said.

Both were released on written promises to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Aug. 7.

Domestic Violence

A 35-year-old Newtown man was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and interfering with a 911 call in relation to what police called a domestic violence altercation.

Jason Vasilescu, of 1 Old Green Road, was arrested after police responded to his residence at 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 5. “Upon arrival it was determined there had been a physical altercation between parties at the residence,” police said. “Newtown EMS [was] called to [the] scene for minor injuries.”

Vasilescu was released on a $1,000 non-surety bond and was scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Aug. 6.

Speeding Leads to Additional Charge

Luis A. Berrios, 49, of Bridgeport, was arrested at 1:53 p.m. on Aug. 6 on charges of operating a vehicle with a suspended license after police pulled him over for speeding on Toddy Hill Road.

Police said Berrios’ license is suspended from a previous DWI charge. He was taken to police headquarters for processing and was then released after posting a $100 bond. He’s scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on Aug. 23.
