Newtown Man Arrested in Connection to Darien Burglary

William Donnelly, 30, has been charged with third-degree burglary and third-degree larceny for allegedly stealing silverware and jewelry from the home on Oct. 2.

A 30 year-old Newtown man was arrested by Darien police on Tuesday for allegedly breaking into a Mystic Lane home on Oct. 2 and stealing silverware and jewelry, according to a statement released by Detective Mark Cappelli.

William Donnelly of Castle Meadow Road turned himself into the department after learning that a warrant was out for his arrest, Cappelli said.

According to police, the resident of the home left that day at 1 p.m. and returned just before 4:28 p.m. to find things out of place inside. She then left the house and called police.

The resident told police that the house had been locked when she left and, according to police, it appeared that the suspects had entered every room of the house and opened dressers, tables and closets.

Donnelly was charged with third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary and third-degree larceny. He posted a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 17.

Further arrests as a result of the investigation are expected, Cappelli said.
