Monroe Firefighters' Boot Drive Raises Over $20K for Sandy Hook

Firefighters collected donations in front of Stevenson Fire Station 2, Monroe Volunteer Fire Station 1 and in front of the intersection for Big Y supermarket on 111 on Saturday.

Monroe firefighters conducted a boot drive on Saturday and raised over $20,000 for the United Way of Western Connecticut’s Sandy Hook School Relief Fund to assist Newtown in its time of tragedy.

Firefighters collected donations in front of Monroe Firehouse 1, Stevenson Fire Station 2 and in front of Big Y Shopping Center on Route 111.

"We want to take this time to thank all who contributed to this effort and wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season," said Monroe Firefighter Chris Krize. "Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with those of Newtown, Sandy Hook Elementary, and to especially all those who were directly affected."
