Items Snatched From Purse at Grocery Store

Newtown Police arrest a local man and remind residents to protect their belongings.

The theft of items from a woman's purse while she was grocery shopping at Caraluzzi's Market has prompted Newtown Police to remind residents to never leave valuables unattended in a shopping cart.

Police said they arrested a Newtown man in connection with the alleged theft, on April 16, after responding to the Queen Street business on report of suspicious activity.

The man, David Cunningham, 29, of Sugar Street, was charged with sixth-degree larceny and credit card theft. Police said he stole items from a pocket book of an unsuspecting shopper.
