Help Troops in Afghanistan This Holiday Season
Donations are still needed, as are hands to help with the packing this Saturday.
The Newtown Police Union is spearheading a collection drive of supplies to support a military police unit currently stationed in Afghanistan. The unit, the 143rd Military Police Company, includes Newtown Police Officer Hayes.
Donations needed include:
- baby wipes
- tooth paste
- deodorant
- shampoo
- soap
- chapstick
- socks (wool)
- gloves
- beef jerky
- protein bars
- granola bars
- nuts
- sunflower seeds
- candy
- dip/cigars
- Nerf footballs
- DVDs
- iTunes gift cards
Items may be dropped off in the lobby of police headquarters, at 3 Main St., before Nov. 24. The public is also invited to join officers for a packing party on Nov. 24, at 9 a.m., in the Explorer Room located downstairs at Town Hall South (behind the police station).
