Police, Firefighters Rescue Two From Early-Morning House Fire

Newtown firefighters, police and ambulance crews responded to an early-morning house fire at about 1:10 a.m. Sunday, arriving within two minutes of the initial report and rescuing two residents trapped inside.

The fire broke out at 31 The Boulevard and appears to be accidental, according to Fire Marshal Bill Halstead. The two residents apparently collapsed due to smoke inhalation, police report, and were unconscious when firefighters arrived. Ambulance crews took them to Danbury Hospital, where they are reportedly in serious condition.

Newtown Hook and Ladder were assisted by local police and Connecticut state police. The fire marshal's office is currently investigating the cause of the blaze.
