Driver Removed from Car After Route 302 Accident

Firefighters pulled a Bethel man from his car after an accident Sunday night near Head O' Meadow in which the driver hit a utility pole and rolled his car.

A 62-year-old Bethel driver was hospitalized after an accident Sunday night on Route 302 (Sugar Street) near Head of Meadow led to a rescue operation by firefighters.

While negotiating a curve, the driver went off the right side of Sugar Road and hit a utility pole. Police say the car rolled twice and came to rest on an embankment off the right side of the road.

Firefighters removed the driver from his car, and he was taken to Danbury State Hospital. Police did not provide information on the nature of the driver's injuries or his condition. Patch will provide updates if information becomes available.

The accident took place at about 7:56 p.m., according to police records. Officers are looking for anyone who witnessed the accident; witnesses are asked to contact Officer Guernsey of the Newtown Police Department.
